Barista creates award-winning drink
This winter, look for the newest coffee creation from The Woods Coffee – the Chocolate Dreamsicle – a dark-chocolate coffee concoction infused with orange zest and a hint of cinnamon. Thank Woods barista Kelly Spiker for creating the drink, which nabbed the first-place award in the Ghirardelli “Drink Throw Down” Original Drink Competition in Seattle.
“Winning the Ghirardelli Drink Show Down was a fun opportunity to be creative and participate with fellow baristas in a friendly competition,” said Spiker, who’s been with the Whatcom County coffee chain since the beginning. (Her dad, Wes Herman, is the owner.)
Spiker won a $250 prize for her inventive work in the non-alcoholic category, and the new coffee creation will be featured at all Woods Coffee locations starting in January.
Spiker’s award isn’t the only kudos The Woods has garnered in recent months. In October it was voted Best Coffee Shop by the viewers of KING 5’s Evening Magazine.
Haven’t experienced The Woods yet? You’ll have more opportunities to soon as the company expects to expand south of Whatcom County in the coming months.
